This incredible desk / table lamp is not only a fully functional lamp but also a stunning piece of art.
 
This started life as a very rusty 1950's Parasene greenhouse heater. A lot of its paint was missing and the bottom of the main tank was very rusty.
 
Parasene greenhouse heaters were manufactured by M H Berlyn Co Ltd (latterly M H Berlyn Ltd) . They were founded in 1905, and apart from greenhouse heaters they also made camping stoves and blow lamps. The company was thought to have been dissolved in c2008, although products, notably paraffin garden heaters, still appear for sale under the Parasene name.
 
To start the restoration the heater was stripped to its component parts then each part was sandblasted. The sandblasting took 6 hours !! Although a lot of the paint was flaking, what was left on was very hard to remove, but we got there in the end. Once blasted the extent of the rusting to the tank bottom could be seen. It was pretty bad so we stabilised the inside of the tank with resin which gave a good solid base to work from.
 
Each individual piece was then degreased and powder coated in gloss black or bright red as per the original colour scheme. It looks fantastic and It's now ready for the next 70 years of its life.
 
For the lamp conversion we made a custom bulb mount to take a vintage style Bakelite bulb holder. To set this off we used an LED diamond shaped bulb. When this shines through the main grill of the lamp it casts amazing shadows.

The lamp has a generous 1.5mtr power cable and an inline switch. All of our lamps are professionally wired fully earthed and PAT tested
