Now this is cool !! True English craftsmanship.
The starting piece for this lamp was a very cool 1950's Parasene Cooking Stove.
Parasene stoves were made by a firm called M H Berlyn & Co. in Birmingham. M H Berlyn & Co made high quality stoves from the turn of the 20th century. They are one of the many British copies of the original Primus Stove produced in Sweden from 1892. This Parasene stoves dates from the late 40's through the 1950's. Parasene made for the Ministry of Defence and others for the civilian market.
We gave the stove a light restoration during which we cleaned up all of the brass and steel parts. The dome has some small dents in it but they just add character. Well it is 70 years old after all :-). We powder coated the burner arms in matt black and these are removable.
To prevent the need for further polishing the dome was clear powder coated. This gives it a finish that will last for years.
The centre of the stove has been adapted by us to accept an antique style light fitting that we also powder coated in matt black. This was professionally wired with period correct braided 3 core vintage cable. The cable is a generous 1.5 metres long and is fitted with a 3 pin fused plug and inline switch. The lamp is fully earthed for electrical safety and has been PAT tested.
To put the finishing touches to the light we have used a smoked E27 screw fitting Edison Globe Light Bulb (included). This gives a beautiful soft white light and the filament is clearly visible when it's turned on.
When lit the light looks amazing, casting great shadows. The photos really don't do it any justice at all.
The light is very versatile and can either be used on a side table, bedside table or desk.
This is not just beautiful light but a great piece of art that is guaranteed to be a conversation piece for years to come!
