This is something very special, it’s an absolutely stunning 1950's industrial ceiling lamp. We have around 10 of these but this is the first one we have finished restoring. This lamp came from a factory in the North West of England.
About the manufacturer
Electric Co was formed in 1932 when Credenda Conduit Co and Simplex Conduits Ltd merged. In addition to lighting equipment and conduits, the company began to manufacture Creda domestic cooking appliances. Between 1932 and 1965 Simplex Electric Co produced a wide range of lighting products but is primarily recognised for its early elegant prismatic street lanterns, bulkheads and factory ceiling lamps. In 1965 the company was bought by General Electric of the U.S.A. and production as Simplex stopped.
This lamp would have been made in the mid 1950's making it a real piece of British industrial history !!.
Now a little about the restoration....
When we acquired the lamp, it was black with layers of muck. Firstly we stripped the lamp down to its individual components. It was then extensively degreased. Once degreased the lamp was polished to bring out the patina. The lamp has a number of small bumps and bangs that it has acquired over the last 70 years but these just add character to the lamp.
We re-wired the lamp with period correct black braided cable. The lamp comes with a 1 mtr cable It is earthed and has been PAT tested for electrical safety. The lamp is supplied with a vintage style Edison filament LED bulb. Its a huge 30cm bulb.
This is a big lamp it has a drop of 60cm and a diameter of 26cm (all measurements are approximate).
To hang this lamp you can use a ceiling mount and hook the lamp directly too it. Or it can be hung from a chain. We are happy to give you guidance regarding hanging.
This is a very heavy lamp approx. 10kg. To ensure it reaches you in perfect condition it will be shipped in 2 boxes.
