The starting piece for this lamp was a vintage Admiralty Pattern Signalling Lamp. It was made by Francis and sons Ltd in bolton in 1954 and would have been used as a ship to ship or ship to shore signalling lantern.  These are often called Aldis lanterns after a British Engineer called Arthur Webb Aldis who In 1944, patented a more compact, portable model that was quickly adopted around the world.  Francis and sons are known for their high quality lamps. Formed in 1901 they are still in business today !!

Now a little about the restoration !!

As this lamp had been used at sea the paint was in very poor shape.  The initial plan was to remove the old paint and repaint it matt black as it had originally been. But when the lamp was sand blasted the castings were so nice it would have been a travesty to cover them up. So instead we polished the aluminium to give it a nice brushed finish. We then clearcoated all the metalwork to maintain the finish.

We fabricated a new bulb holder to replace the old 12v one and it looks like it could have always been there.

We have re-wired the light with black vintage style braided cable and fitted an inline switch. The lamp has a generous 1.5mtr power cable.

The lamp comes with an Edison double cross filament Energy Saving tube bulb. This gives a beautiful .

This is not just beautiful light but a great piece of art that is guaranteed to be a conversation piece for years to come!

The lamp has been PAT tested and is fully earthed for electrical safety.

This lamp has the following approx dimensions:

Height - tbc
Width - tbc
